The Committee Roles

The London Adult Figure Skating Club is run by a dedicated volunteer committee who work together to support our members and organise club activities throughout the year.

Each role within the committee plays an important part in ensuring the smooth running of the club — from coordinating events and managing membership to promoting our activities and supporting our community.

Below you can find an overview of each committee role and its responsibilities.

Chair

The Chair leads the club and supports the committee in ensuring everything runs smoothly. They help guide decisions, coordinate activities, and represent the club’s overall direction.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the committee and oversee club activities
  • Guide and support decision-making across the committee
  • Work with the Secretary to prepare agendas, reports, and meeting minutes
  • Ensure the club operates in line with its constitution and relevant regulations
  • Work with the Treasurer to ensure funds are managed responsibly
  • Support the preparation of any required reports or official documents
  • Provide updates if unable to attend meetings and brief the Vice-Chair

Vice-Chair

The Vice-Chair supports the Chair in leading the club and helps ensure the smooth running of committee activities. They play a key role in assisting with decision-making and stepping in when needed.

  • Support the Chair in ensuring committee tasks and responsibilities are carried out
  • Step in to chair meetings when the Chair is unavailable
  • Assist with leadership of the committee and ongoing club activities
  • Take on specific projects or responsibilities to support the club’s development
  • Help share the workload of the Chair when required

Secretary

The Secretary manages the club’s administration and communication, helping to ensure everything runs smoothly and efficiently. They act as a key point of contact for members and support the organisation of meetings and club operations.

Key responsibilities

  • Act as a main point of contact for the club, ensuring clear and timely communication
  • Manage or delegate administrative tasks for the club
  • Coordinate with the Treasurer to ensure affiliations are accurate and paid on time
  • Ensure members have access to key contact information
  • Organise committee meetings and the AGM
  • Prepare and circulate meeting agendas in advance
  • Take and distribute minutes for meetings

Membership Secretary

The Membership Secretary manages the club’s membership records and ensures that member information is kept accurate, up to date, and handled securely. They support both new and existing members throughout the membership process.

Key responsibilities

  • Maintain and update the membership database
  • Process new membership applications and record payments
  • Remove lapsed members from the database
  • Send membership renewal reminders
  • Ensure all member information is handled confidentially and in line with data protection practices

Publicity Officer

The Publicity Officer is responsible for promoting the club, its events, and its members. They help raise awareness of LAFSC and support communication both within the club and to the wider community.

Key responsibilities

  • Promote the club, its events, and member activities
  • Work with the Chair to support the club’s overall visibility and messaging
  • Manage and develop the club’s presence across media and social media
  • Create and share content such as posts, articles, or press releases
  • Keep a record of media coverage and publicity
  • Share event updates or summaries with members
  • Provide a written update if unable to attend committee meetings

Treasurer

The Treasurer manages the club’s finances and ensures that all income and expenditure are handled responsibly and transparently. They play a key role in supporting the club’s financial planning and sustainability.

Key responsibilities

  • Oversee and manage the club’s finances
  • Process invoices, payments, and expenses efficiently
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records
  • Ensure funds are used appropriately and in the best interests of the club
  • Record all income and issue receipts where required
  • Prepare and present financial updates at committee meetings
  • Prepare end-of-year accounts
  • Work with the committee to plan the annual budget
  • Monitor the budget throughout the year
